Action for Children is a fantastic service delivery charity. Across the length and breadth of the UK, from the Highlands and Islands of Scotland to Guernsey; Northern Ireland to Norfolk - our 650 services act early to ensure children get the care and support they need. There is an amazing diversity, from schools and fostering to children's centres and tackling youth homelessness, but the one thing that unites us all is that we are all here in the service of the children.
Technology has an innovative role to play in every area of Action for Children's activities, improving outcomes for children, increasing voluntary income and contributing to a trusted, growing charity. We are now implementing our digitally enabling Action for Children (DEA) strategy; this includes a major upgrade of our mobile, desktop and back end infrastructure, which is now nearing completion. This is already delivering huge benefits and we strive to continue to deliver technology driven service enhancements.
Reporting to the CIO, and working closely your peers across the charity, you will lead the IT function and will contribute to the overall technology, organisational and IT strategies.
IT is a high performing, high morale team of 40+, providing IT services to over 5,000 staff in 400+ locations. Our technology stack is industry standard and up-to-date.
With the DEA platform now in place, the Head of IT will play a key role in deciding what IT innovations will now be of the greatest benefit, in the service of the children.
There are plenty of opportunities, with Digital Case Files for Children; hybrid on premise/Office 365 & Azure cloud; developing bi-modal agile/waterfall capability; and refreshing ITIL based process management - all on the agenda and with accountability for a GBP 5M operational expenditure budget and a GBP 3M re-charge budget, this is a great opportunity to be part of a winning team.
A genuine desire to make a difference in the service of children
Substantial experience of IT leadership, including team leadership, business planning and strategy development
Extensive experience of people, technology and financial management
Excellent knowledge of information technology at a management level
Demonstrable knowledge/certifications in relevant disciplines, e.g. technology, process, project management
