This is an exciting time to join the University of Westminster whilst we invest in our campus and infrastructure to create London’s ultimate student experience. We are now seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced manager to lead our Windows Infrastructure team within the IT Infrastructure Group.
You will play a leading role in the management, development and security of our Microsoft infrastructure, and the migration away from legacy services. You will be responsible for leading the team in evaluating solutions, planning upgrades, integrating Windows server technologies and have experience of disaster recovery and business continuity approaches. You will work closely with other members of the Infrastructure team, other teams within Information Services and colleagues in other departments. You will advise the Head of IT Infrastructure on strategic and tactical work required in the Windows Infrastructure arena. You will also be expected to provide third line support and investigate service problems as they arise.
To be successful in this role you’ll have demonstrable experience of working within a third line role to maintain and develop complex infrastructure using and advocating best practice service management principles. You will have experience of leading a team of infrastructure staff in delivering key systems and infrastructure projects and supporting major systems. Experience of working within a continuous improvement environment or formal process improvement and root-cause analysis is highly desirable.
The Information Services department at the University of Westminster provides IT services to the entire University. As part of the IT infrastructure group, the Windows Infrastructure Team work within two core services: the virtual server farm (ESX), underpinning the University’s IT service and the Microsoft server environment.
You should be familiar with virtualisation, storage, networking and ITIL. You will install and integrate new servers; monitor performance & capacity; design and code scripts; and automate processes. You will also support backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity. You will have excellent knowledge of Windows 2008 and above and be able to demonstrate significant experience in several of the following areas: experience of patching servers and applications; Active Directory including Group Policy; MS SQL Server including backup; IIS; Powershell; Exchange/Office365; DNS; Citrix. You will have a good working knowledge of TCP/IP.
You will need to have good interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with our internal customers and understand the varied needs across the spectrum of our user-base, adapting your approach to the situation. The fast-paced nature of our environment makes change and competing priorities inevitable, you’ll be comfortable prioritising your work load, managing expectations and maintain composure under stressful situations. We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, who can think analytically, pays close attention to detail and can lead a team.
